Elizabeth Shippen Green

Acclaimed American illustrator, Elizabeth Shippen Green was one of the three "Red Rose Girls" (along with J. W. Smith and Violet Oakley). Green achieved success as an illustrator of children's books, but also as an accomplished artist depicting scenes from a wide range and cross-section of life. Many of her superb, colorful, and decorative images appeared in periodicals such as Harpers Weekly. A graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and a primary student of Howard Pyle, Green distinguished herself in a long career, including a great body of work following her marriage to Huger Elliot in 1911. |
