Violet Oakley

Violet Oakley, a member of the "Red Rose Girls" along with J. W. Smith and Elizabeth Shippen Green, was one America's most gifted female mural artists. As well, she distinguished herself in a professional career of over 70 years, illustrating books and contributing artwork to periodicals. Her murals adorn the halls of the Harrisburg Senate Chamber and Supreme Court and many other buildings in Pennsylvania. Her artwork ranges from superb decorative illustration, to classic illumination and even stained glass design. |
